The Teenage Wasteland eZine is the result of an experimental digital humanities course conducted at the University of New England (Biddeford, Maine) in Spring 2015.

The fact is that nobody, aside from Benjamin Button, is born old. And yet, being young isn't what it used to be. Teenagers and youth culture are a rather late edition to the human experience, a product of the post-World War II era. This class explored the evolution of teenagers, the music that bound them together into subcultural and cultural groups, the fashions that set them apart, and the moral panics that made adults crazy.

From the first youth groups of the postwar, as well as their cars and behaviors, to the music videos, rappers and sexpot popstars of the present, this eZine tells their stories from the perspective of UNE students.

About the Professor

Eric "MC eZ" Zuelow is Associate Professor of European History at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. He made a series of questionable fashion choices as a teenager and assumes that others probably did the same.
